After a brief but intense thunderstorm with some impressive lightning which delayed the start of the session by about 30 minutes, the Patriots and Falcons held their second practice of the day.
The same 13 players which missed the morning missed the afternoon - Darnell Jenkins, Matthew Slater, Leigh Bodden, Bret Lockett, Terrence Johnson, Dane Fletcher, Thomas Williams, Gary Guyton, George Bussey, Nick Kaczur, Damione Lewis, Tully Banta-Cain, and Jermaine Cunningham.
Players were once again in shoulder pads and shorts, though the tempo of the practice wasn't quite as intense as in the morning, and there was more 7-on-7 work than 11-on-11.
During early skeleton work, Tom Brady had a towel tucked under his left arm, a mechanics reminder to keep his elbow close to his body.
It wasn't the greatest practice for either of the top New England quarterbacks. Brady's second pass was an interception - it seemed that he was looking Randy Moss' way the entire time. Moss was covered by Dominique Franks, with help from Chevis Jackson. Brady underthrew Moss on the quick corner route, and Jackson was there for the interception, which likely would have been a pick-6.
A few snaps later, Brady looked deep to Brandon Tate, who earlier had made a nice sliding catch, and overthrew him over the middle. Brian Hoyer seemed to spray the ball quite a bit as well.
The teams then reversed fields, making it red zone work. Brady completed touchdowns to Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.
Seven-on-seven goal-line work saw Fred Taylor -- who has had a tough time corraling passes going back to the spring -- and Tate. A few minutes later, with Hoyer back running the offense, Brady and Taylor went to the side, alone, and worked together for a few mintues, Taylor coming out of the backfield and Brady throwing him passes.
Tom Brady chatted with both Tony Gonzalez and Warrick Dunn, who took in both practices.
The Pats' No. 83, Wes Welker, spent several minutes once practice had wrapped with Atlanta's No. 83, Harry Douglas. Welker was motioning to his left knee, no doubt talking about his ACL injury -- Douglas tore his left ACL a year ago.
