Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been intimately involved in Best Buddies International -- a foundation helping the intellectually and developmentally disabled live more normal lives -- for nearly his entire career, and now serves as chairman for the charity's annual Best Buddies Challenge each spring.

A local couple, Brian and Amanda Hanson, took part in those festivities in June, and came away with a real appreciation for the work Brady and Best Buddies have done ... So much so that they're now throwing some serious financial support behind the cause.

The Hansons have pledged to donate $1,000 to Best Buddies for every touchdown pass that Brady throws this season, and have established the "Tom Brady Touchdown Challenge", where other folks can make a similar commitment to support the cause. The Best Buddies Web site already has a page set up to make it easy for you to pitch in, where you can click through and pitch in anywhere from $1 to $1,000 for every time Brady hits paydirt with one of his receivers.

Brady said in a statement, "It is an honor to be able to help the Hansons raise awareness and funds to help this cause, and I hope that their incredible generosity will motivate other fans to join us in the Touchdown Challenge.”

Seems like a pretty cool concept, anyway, and this is certainly a pretty cool cause.
