New England has traded running back Laurence Maroney to Denver; colleague Albert Breer has confirmed.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the deal; he reports that the Broncos will receive Maroney and the Patriots' 2011 sixth-round pick, while New England gets Denver's 2011 fourth-round pick.
The Pats' first-round pick in 2006, Maroney never quite panned out, struggling with injuries and losing favor with fans who said he preferred to tap-dance behind the line of scrimmage rather than hitting the hole in New England's zone-blocking scheme.
Trading Maroney means at the moment, 34-year old Fred Taylor is the Pats' lead back; 34-year old Kevin Faulk, fellow 30-something Sammy Morris and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
We'll have more soon.
