Seattle receiver Deion Branch was excused from the team's practice session today, given a "personal day," according to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Since the Patriots traded Randy Moss to Minnesota last week, there has been talk that they will turn to Branch, whom they traded to Seattle in 2006, and bring him back to New England as a veteran receiver with knowledge of the offense.

He is also one of Tom Brady's favorite targets, and has remained friends with many of the current Pats he once shared the locker room with.

This personal day only heightens speculation that a trade is in the works: why risk an injury to Branch in practice if he's about to be dealt? I'm trying to get more on where things stand; when I hear something, I'll pass it along.

The NFL trading deadline is next Tuesday, Oct. 19.
