The Patriots have placed tackle/guard Nick Kaczur on injured reserve, ending any chance of him returning from back surgery this season.

The roster move with Kaczur was done to make room for Deion Branch on the 53-man roster; New England also announced the trade for Branch, meaning he passed his physical.

Kaczur reportedly had back surgery in mid-August, putting his season in jeopardy. But the Patriots had held open his roster spot, apparently hopeful that the player they had initially chosen to replace Logan Mankins at left guard would be able to return at some point this season. Now, however, it seems safe to assume that Kaczur wasn't progressing fast enough to return to the field anytime in the near future.
