A long-held hope of Patriots fans -- and Patriots players who have been in Foxborough for several years -- could come to bear: the return of Deion Branch.

According to a league source, the receiver, traded to Seattle in 2006 for a first-round draft pick, was to meet with Seattle general manager John Schneider yesterday afternoon about his future with the team. While Branch, now 31, has 13 receptions thus far this season, the Seahawks have a surplus of receivers, and recently signed Brandon Stokley.

The source continued that Tom Brady, knowing that the trade of Randy Moss was in the works, has been in touch with his friend and former favorite receiver frequently over the last week or so, talking to him about Branch coming back to the Patriots.

As recently as this year, Branch has said that he would come back to New England if the opportunity presented itself.

Branch has never had the success in Seattle that he enjoyed in New England, struggling with knee injuries.

The Seattle Times has also reported that there has been talk of a potential trade between the Patriots and Seahawks for Branch.
