In August, Vince Wilfork was photographed by the Globe's Stan Grossfeld with Big Vince, a horse named for him at Stonewall Farm in Norfolk.

Last week, Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

This week, another national media outlet is also featuring him as its lead story. Wilfork is the top story on ustrotting.com, the web site of the United States Trotting Association, which governs harness racing in the United States.

Wilfork, who already owns some standardbreds, says he wants to possibly train race horses someday. He received a thoroughbred as a Christmas gift from his wife, the story says.

Wilfork was introduced to harness racing through a friendship with the CEO of Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville, Gary Piontkowski, and the track's general manager, Steve O'Toole.

“I’ve become great friends with Gary and Steve and through the years they have opened my eyes to the sport,” Wilfork said. “Gary took time almost every day to teach me how to read programs and understand what all of that meant. When the opportunity came for me to own a percentage in a horse, I immediately took him up on the chance.”
