This is included in my Sunday football notes but figured since there's not much going on to post it here:
Pro Football Weekly published their “Super 50” rankings this week and there were some interesting results. Coaches and evaluators from around the NFL gave their input in the list of the top 50 players from the 2010 season. Players were ranked using performance and value to team as the criteria. The Patriots had two players appear in the rankings. Quarterback Tom Brady took the top spot, and inside linebacker Jerod Mayo came in at No. 49. Receiver Wes Welker and nose tackle Vince Wilfork were named among the 25 players in the honorable mention category.
In the AFC East, the Jets also placed two players – cornerback Darrelle Revis (13) and center Nick Mangold (48) – as did the Dolphins – linebacker Cameron Wake (45) and tackle Jake Long (46). Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson was an honorable mention for the Jets. The Bills had no players listed.
Across the NFL, the Packers and Ravens each placed five players. Aaron Rodgers (second) and Terrell Suggs (22nd) were the highest rated players from Green Bay and Baltimore, respectively. The Colts, Steelers, Bears, Falcons and Chiefs each had three players. Quarterback Matt Cassel (47) was the only former Patriot to make the list. Cornerback Asante Samuel was an honorable mention.
