Mankins' agent: Patriots' treatment 'a travesty'

At the Super Bowl, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said he wanted guard Logan Mankins to remain with the team for years to come.

At the NFL Combine tonight, however, it seems as though that may not happen.

Mankins's agent, Frank Bauer, talked briefly on a downtown sidewalk here in Indianapolis, and lamented the way the Patriots have treated his client.

"One of the best players on your football team, that the coaching staff respects – it’s a travesty what they’ve done with this player,” said Bauer. "(A new deal) should have been done a long time ago. It could have been done a long time ago. But it got stopped.

“And right now we’re not talking. And they tagged him.”

Bauer said he has talked with Kraft in 2011, but they haven't talked recently, and there has been no progress toward a contract.

"It still cannot be worked out. We disagree," Bauer said.

New England has designated Mankins as its franchise player for 2011; Bauer said no decision has been made yet on whether he will sign the tag.
