The artist formerly known as the NFL Players Association made a very good move today by deciding to put on its own version of the rookie symposium late next month.

The NFL had canceled its annual event -- formerly a joint venture with the NFLPA -- last week because of the lockout.

Thanks to the NFLPA, all draft picks will now get an education on what it takes to be a professional both on and off the field. "The Business of Football: Rookie Edition" will take place June 28-29 in Washington, D.C.

It also won't hurt NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith to curry a little good favor with many of his constituents. If this lockout drags on, more than a few people are going to be angling to oust Smith.
