It's common knowledge that nothing gets people talking - especially in sports - like a list or ranking. NFL Network has turned that into a 10-week series, with its ongoing 100 best NFL players of 2010, which revealed players 50 to 41 last night (with Wes Welker coming in at 50).

USA Today's NFL staff is undertaking its own ranking series, of the 10 best players at each position. The series began today with the cornerback position, and the Pats' Devin McCourty came in at No. 7.

It's a pretty nice honor for McCourty, who went to the Pro Bowl after a rookie season that saw him pull in seven interceptions (second in the league) and 82 tackles.

The Jets' Darrelle Revis was unanimously chosen as the best player at the position, and former Patriot Asante Samuel, now with the Eagles, was voted fourth.

Here's the full top 10, according to USA Today:

1. Darrelle Revis, Jets
2. Nnamdi Asomugha, Raiders
3. Charles Woodson, Packers
4. Asante Samuel, Eagles
5. Champ Bailey, Broncos
6. Tramon Williams, Packers
7. Devin McCourty, Patriots
8. Antoine Winfield, Vikings
9. Brent Grimes, Falcons
10. Aqib Talib, Buccaneers
