The Jets made the first big free agency splash in the AFC East by resigning one of their own, WR Santonio Holmes, according to multiple reports.

No doubt this is a big signing for them. And Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha is reportedly next on the team's checklist.

But let's keep this in perspective. Even with Holmes' back, these are Mark Sanchez's WRs and TEs: Jerricho Cotchery, Jeremy Kerley, Scotty McKnight, Patrick Turner, Logan Payne, Dustin Keller, Matt Mulligan and Jeff Cumberland.

Not exactly murder's row, even with Holmes. The Jets HAD to make this move.

Everybody's going to overreact to this today and start keeping score. But this isn't baseball. This isn't the Yankees and Red Sox keeping up with each other.

Often in the NFL -- and perhaps most importantly this year because of the lockout -- the teams with the most stability win in the end. Look at the Packers and Steelers last year.
