It may be a tough day for a few guys headed to Gillette Stadium tomorrow. Another defensive lineman is coming to town.

Defensive end Andre Carter announced via Twitter tonight that he will be joining the Patriots. Carter, who played with the Washington Redskins and 49ers, wrote, "I am proud to announce that I will be playing for the New England Patriots for the 2011 season."

Carter played five seasons with the 49ers and the last five with the Redskins. He has 66 sacks in his career and is a former teammate of Albert Haynesworth, who was traded to the Patriots on July 28.

Carter worked out for the Patriots last week and becomes the fourth defensive lineman added to the Patriots roster in a week.

In other news, the Patriots announced cornerback Thad Turner, who was on the Patriots practice squad last season, has been released. The team put rookie offensive lineman Kyle Hix, who signed as an undrafted free agent, on injured reserve.
