The Patriots have announced they've signed rookie free agent offensive lineman Zach Roth from Texas Christian.

Roth, listed at 6-6, 319 pounds, was TCU's right tackle last season, playing opposite New England draft pick Marcus Cannon, who was the team's left tackle.

The team also released O-lineman Chris Morris, a veteran signed 10 days ago, and defensive lineman Steve Williams.

On Thursday night, Williams told colleague Greg Bedard that he'd been out of football for quite some time before the Pats called a couple of weeks ago, and in that time he'd lost 50 pounds. When Williams walked into Bill Belichick's office upon his arrival, the coach barely recognized him.

Williams faced an uphill battle from the start as one of 19 D-linemen on the roster.

Morris had missed several days of practice, likely due to injury.
