The Patriots released quarterback Jonathan Crompton, agent Joel Turner confirms.

Crompton was signed to New England's practice squad last November.

Since training camp began, Crompton had slid to the back of a four-man pack at the position, with third-round pick Ryan Mallett stepping in front of him on the depth chart.
