The Patriots are once again in full pads for today's practice as they prepare for the Detroit Lions on Saturday and also the regular-season opener in less than three weeks.

On the plus side, rookie RB Shane Vereen returned to the field; he has not been spotted since Aug. 3 when he suffered a hamstring injury. Nate Solder, Lee Smith, and Josh Barrett, all of whom have missed varying lengths of time, also returned to practice.

Albert Haynesworth was also present for the media-access time for the second straight day.

As for who was missing: Stevan Ridley, Leigh Bodden, Kevin Faulk (PUP), Malcolm Williams, Eric Kettani, Jeff Tarpinian, Dane Fletcher, Brandon Spikes, Marcus Cannon (NFI), Ryan Wendell, Brandon Deaderick (PUP), Jermaine Cunningham, Ron Brace (PUP), and Mike Wright were not with the full team in uniform.

There is a new addition to the team, an offensive lineman who was wearing No. 66, but the team has not made an announcement on that player's identity.

Also, friend of Belichick Jon Bon Jovi was on the field taking in the session.
