The Patriots have cut veteran safety James Sanders and two other players as they begin the process of getting down to the 53-player limit by the season opener.

Sanders, via Twitter, confirmed the initial report by ESPN.

The Patriots, who must be down to 80 players by tomorrow, also released two other players: Wide receiver Darnell Jenkins and defensive lineman Clay Nurse.
