Former Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich played well for the New York Giants, recording one sack against the Patriots in the Giants' 18-17 win.

"I think I played physical and fast," Herzlich said. "There was some mistakes here and there, which happen, but I just have to improve on it and hopefully it's enough.

"On the sack, we had a couple of different blitzes called throughout that series and on that one, I read that my man was blocking, so I came in off the edge and he got pressure out of the pocket and [Ryan Mallett] kind of just fell in my lap," Herzlich continued. "It was kind of nice."

The game was a homecoming of sorts for Herzlich, the former Boston College star.

"The stars align sometimes," he said. "It's my birthday and coming back to Boston, it's really a blessing to play."

There's still the issue of the rookie free agent making the Giants' team.

"I think I can help them win," Herzlich said. "It's as simple as that. I come out with an intensity wherever you put me, special teams, defense, whatever position you want, I'm going to give it 100 percent and I believe that my 100 percent can help the Giants win football games."
