With the mix and mash of defensive backs fighting for a spot on the final roster, it can be a little confusing for those on the outside to discern who will make the final cut. But it can be just as tough for those on the inside, too.

Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather, who didn't start Thursday night's preseason finale against the New York Giants, said he "didn't know" when asked if he was happy with his situation.

"I don't know my situation," Meriweather said. "I think our coaches do a great job rotating all us in. And playing a lot of guys. Getting a lot of guys a lot of playing time with other people to see how they play together so you know you never know your situation until it's time."

The Patriots recently cut veteran James Sanders. Meriweather didn't want to comment on Sanders's departure.

Josh Barrett and Patrick Chung were Thursday night's starting safeties.
