Whether punter Zoltan Mesko plays Sunday against the Bills depends on today’s practice, he said. He injured his knee in last week’s win over the Chargers and has been limited in practice this week. The Patriots tried out two punters Wednesday in the event that Mesko’s unable to play this week.

"I feel good,” he said. “We’ll see how we test it out fully. I feel like I put in all I got as far as rehab goes. Today is going to be the day to decide it."

James Ihedigbo was blocked into Mesko in the third quarter of the Chargers game.

“It was just a little freak thing,” Mesko said.

It was the first time he’d dealt with anything like it, though.

“The first few moments it was kind of strange,” he said. “I had no clue. I’m always the eternal optimist. So I was hoping for the best. It wasn’t too bad, I think.”

He said he tried campaigning on the sideline to go back in the game. “At least to myself,” he said.

“I was going to try and make it a go, but obviously it wasn’t working. I tried helping Steve [Gostkowski] out with the holding as much as I can. I’m always the eternal optimist, I was hoping for the best and it wasn’t too bad I think.”
