FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots have released veteran defensive lineman Gerard Warren today to make room for tight end Dan Gronkowski, who also signed today.

Warren played 2010 with the Patriots and expected to return this season after coach Bill Belichick told him last season he wanted to see the veteran back in a Patriots uniform. Belichick kept his promise and brought back Warren at the start of training camp.

The roster remains very fluid in the first week as the Patriots tinker with depth at various positions.

Gronkowski, who is the brother of Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, is 6 feet 5 inches and 255 pounds. He is in his third NFL season. The Denver Broncos cut him Sept. 3. He has played in 14 NFL games in his career with nine receptions and 65 yards.
