As if the business of player transactions didn't keep officials at Gillette Stadium busy enough today, the Patriots tried out longtime Chiefs guard Brian Waters today, a league source confirms.

It is believed the team won't let him get very far and will sign him.

Waters, who is 34, went from undrafted free agent with the Cowboys out of North Texas in 1999 to five-time Pro Bowler with Kansas City, where he played from 2000 on. He was released on July 28.

Waters was also a two-time All-Pro and the 2009 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his excellence on the field and community contributions off it.

Dan Connolly suffered an ankle injury against the Lions in the Pats' third preseason game, and with Rich Ohrnberger now on injured reserve and potential guard Marcus Cannon on reserve/non-football injury list, the team is thin at guard.
