Old friend Albert Breer, now of NFL Network, is reporting that Patriots' center Dan Koppen will be out 6 to 10 weeks due to the left ankle injury he suffered last night in the first half against the Dolphins.

Breer posted this on his Twitter feed:

On Patriots C Dan Koppen: Small crack, bad sprain in left ankle. Minor surgery likely. Might need a screw put in. Out 6-10 weeks.

If that is the case, it will be interesting to see if the team keeps his roster spot open. Under the six-week timetable, Koppen would be returning to the field for the Pats' game in Pittsburgh after their bye week; under the 10-week timetable, he'd be returning around the time of the Philadelphia game in late November.

The news is relatively positive for New England; had there been extensive ligament damage, Koppen surely would have been out for the entire season.

The nine-year veteran has not missed a game since 2005.
