There is some good news and not-so-good news this afternoon as the Patriots hold their first on-field practice in preparation for Sunday's game with San Diego.

The good news is that T Sebastian Vollmer returned after missing all of last week thanks to an ailing back.

The not-so-good news is that CB Leigh Bodden, C Dan Koppen, and DL Mike Wright were missing. Bodden spoke during locker-room access today, and played in Miami despite a hand injury. Koppen, of course, has the ankle injury that will keep him out for a while. Wright left Monday night's game but there was no press box announcement about an injury.

Players in black as practice players of the week were WR Julian Edelman, LB AJ Edds, DB Ray Ventrone and Matt Kopa.

Given the short week, players were in shells, not full pads.
