Final: Steelers 25, Patriots 17

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers did to the Patriots what the Patriots had done to the rest of the league. They spread them out, and then diced them apart.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 36 of 50 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Steelers past New England, 25-17.

Tom Brady was 24 of 35 passing for 198 yards and two touchdowns, connecting on scoring passes to Aaron Hernandez and Deion Branch.

Kevin Faulk, who made his return to the Patriots today, caught five passes for 20 yards and ran for 32 yards on six carries as the starting running back.

Roethlisberger put the Steelers up 7-0 on Pittsburgh's first drive of the game. He hit Mewelde Moore with a five-yard touchdown pass to cap an 11-play, 68-yard drive.

Shaun Suisham made it 10-0 for the Steelers with a 33-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter, capping a 16-play, 72-yard drive that consumed 7:47.

The Patriots cut the lead to 10-7 two plays after linebacker Gary Guyton intercepted a Roethlisberger pass and returned it to the eight yard line. Brady hit Deion Branch in the front corner of the end zone from two yards.

Antonio Brown caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to make it 17-7 with 2:41 left in the first half.

Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 46-yard field goal with 29 seconds left in the first half to cut Pittsburgh's lead to 17-10.

Suisham's second field goal, a 21-yarder to cap a 14-play, 70-yard drive, gave the Steelers a 20-10 lead early in the third quarter.

He added a 23-yard field goal to cap an 11-play, 63-yard drive with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter that made it 23-10.

Brady cut the lead to 23-17 with a one-yard touchdown pass to Hernandez with less than three minutes remaining. The score finished a 10-play, 66-yard drive.

The Steelers made the final score 25-17 when Brady was stripped and the ball went through the back of the end zone for a safety.

2:35 4th quarter: Steelers 23, Patriots 17 -- Tom Brady found Aaron Hernandez in the back of the end zone for a 1-yard TD pass. The Patriots managed to overcome a strong Steelers defense in the red zone. They benefited from a holding call on the Steelers' Ryan Mundy in the end zone. He held Rob Gronkowski one play prior to the touchdown pass. On a pass to Kevin Faulk at the goal line, the running back was denied the end zone by a swarm of tacklers, reminiscent of fourth and 2.

6:03 4th quarter: Steelers 23, Patriots 10 -- The Steelers' Shaun Suisham missed a 44-yard field goal attempt wide right. With 6:03 left, again, the Patriots are fight the Steelers and the clock.

8:48 4th quarter: Steelers 23, Patriots 10 -- The Patriots were forced to punt after seven plays.

11:26 4th quarter: Steelers 23, Patriots 10 -- Shaun Suisham kicked a 23-yard field goal to put the Steelers up by 13 points. The Steelers went 63 yards on 11 plays in 5:54. The Patriots are now fighting both the Steelers and the clock.

End of the 3rd quarter: Steelers 20, Patriots 10 -- Ben Roethlisberger has more than 300 yards passing already. He's 30 of 43 for 325 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. The Steelers are driving on the Patriots again.

2:20 3rd quarter: Steelers 20, Patriots 10 -- Stephen Gostkowski missed his first field goal of the year, hitting the right post on a 42-yard try. The Patriots' drive was stalled after a false start by Matt Light. Steelers LB Lamarr Woodley also suffered a hamstring injury on the drive. His return is questionable. He has two sacks today.

6:11 3rd quarter: Steelers 20, Patriots 10 -- Shaun Suisham kicked a 21-yard field goal to extend the Steelers' lead to 10 points.

The Steelers drove 70 yards on 14 plays in 7:06. Ben Roethlisberger had key passes to Emmanuel Sanders on the drive. But on third and three in the red zone, the Patriots blanketed Steelers receivers to force the field goal.

13:40 3rd quarter: Steelers 17, Patriots 10 -- The Patriots went three-and-out on their opening drive of the second half. Tom Brady was hurried on a throw and BenJarvus Green-Ellis was pummeled by LB Chris Carter on a run.

15:00 3rd quarter: Steelers 17, Patriots 10 -- The third quarter is getting underway with the Patriots receiving.

End of the 2nd quarter: Steelers 17, Patriots 10 -- The first half comes to a close with the Steelers doing their best to hold the Patriots offense down.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger leads the way for the opposition. He's 23 of 32 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He's been shredding the Patriots' secondary.

Tom Brady is a quiet 8 of 13 for 76 yards and touchdown. He's been sacked twice in the game by Steelers linebacker Lamarr Woodley.

0:29 2nd quarter: Steelers 17, Patriots 10 -- Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 46-yard field goal to bring the Patriots within seven.

The drive was stalled after a seven-yard sack by Lamarr Woodley, his second of the day for the Steelers. Sebastian Vollmer, who has missed the last month, was beat on the outside by Woodley. Vollmer was substituting for the rookie Nate Solder.

2:41 2nd quarter: Steelers 17, Patriots 7 -- Ben Roethlisberger threw a 7-yard touchdown to Antonio Brown. It capped a 10-play, 76-yard drive that lasted 5:39.

The score was keyed by two big Roethlisberger passes on the drive, including a 26-yard throw to Emmanuel Sanders and 14-yarder to Mike Wallace.

7:55 2nd quarter: Steelers 10, Patriots 7 -- Shaun Ellis has a rib injury and his return is questionable.

8:20 2nd quarter: Steelers 10, Patriots 7 -- Tom Brady threw a 2-yard TD pass to Deion Branch. Kevin Faulk had a nice 6-yard run on the 2-play drive to set up the touchdown. The Patriots capitalized on LB Gary Guyton's 17-yard interception return.

8:53 2nd quarter: Steelers 10, Patriots 0 -- Gary Guyton faked a blitz, dropped back into coverage, and intercepted Ben Roethlisberger to give the Patriots the ball back.

10:19 2nd quarter: Steelers 10, Patriots 0 -- The Steelers' Lamarr Woodley recorded a 14-yard sack on Tom Brady, forcing the Patriots to punt. Logan Mankins was the nearest Patriots offensive lineman to Woodley.

14:55 2nd quarter: Steelers 10, Patriots 0 -- Ben Roethlisberger is shredding the Patriots' defense. Patriots NT Vince Wilfork was able to get a hand on him for a six-yard sack that forced a field goal from Shaun Suisham to extend the Steelers' lead to 10-0. Prior to that, Roethlisberger had been 7 of 10 on the drive. The Steelers' drive was 16 plays for 72 yards.

7:50 1st quarter: Steelers 7, Patriots 0 -- The Patriots go three-and-out on their first drive after Tom Brady couldn't connect with Deion Branch on third down with three yards to go.

9:08 1st quarter: Steelers 7, Patriots 0 -- Ben Roethlisberger threw a 5-yard TD pass to Mewelde Moore, capping an 11-play, 68-yard drive that spanned 5:52.

Roethlisberger hit tight end Heath Miller four times on the drive for 63 yards, including twice on third down when the Patriots could have stopped the Steelers' drive.

15:00 1st quarter -- The Patriots won the toss and deferred to the second half. Steelers receive. Game on.
