Patriots' defensive end Andre Carter has been named AFC defensive player of the week for his team-record 4.5 sack performance against the Jets.

He is the second Pats player to garner a weekly honor this season - Tom Brady was named the conference's offensive player of the week after both Weeks 1 and 2.

This is the second career player of the week award for Carter, who was also recognized in Week 17 of his rookie year in 2001, when he was with the 49ers and had two sacks and six total tackles against New Orleans.

James Sanders was the last Patriots player to win defensive player of the week, after New England's win in Pittsburgh last November.
