The Patriots announced the signing of veteran defensive back Nate Jones, a 2004 seventh-round pick of the Cowboys out of Rutgers.

Jones, listed at 5 feet 10 inches, 185 pounds, was a Bill Parcells favorite; he was with the Cowboys until 2007, and when Parcells went to Miami in 2008 he brought Jones along. In 2010, Jones played with the Broncos, and he returned to Miami this season, playing in three games before being released.

Jones has played in 101 career games with 10 starts. He has 163 total tackles, with 6 sacks. He also has 59 career special-teams tackles.

Jones fills the roster spot that opened when the Patriots released Phillip Adams yesterday.
