FOXBOROUGH -- The deadline is approaching for the Patriots to make a decision about defensive lineman Ron Brace's roster status.

The Patriots released safety Ross Ventrone yesterday, opening up a spot on the 53-man roster that could be filled by Brace, who began the season on the physically unable to perform list due to elbow surgery.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Brace is progressing and a decision will be made soon. Whatever the decision by the Patriots, Brace said he isn't changing his preparation.

"Just doing the same each week," he said. "If they call my name, I just gotta know it’s my job to be ready, so each week just come and try to get ready for each opponent, so if they call my name, I’ll just try to be ready."

When asked if he is ready to play, Brace said he believes he is.

"Every week I come in prepared, a normal game week, as if I’m going to play. Just come in with the mindset what if they do call your name, gotta be ready," he said.
