The Pro Bowl rosters will be announced at 7 tonight.
I'm not a big fan of how the voting is done, and even less of a fan of the "game" itself. No offense, but the fans and players each getting a third of the vote is kind of a joke because it's strictly a popularity contest. If it were up to me, each pro personnel department would fill out a ballot -- no one could vote for their own players -- because those are the people who truly know which players are playing well.
I'll get into my on thoughts on which Patriots are worthy in a second, but just to recap, here are the Patriots that were voted to the Pro Bowl since Bill Belichick arrived as coach. Notice how I said voted to the Pro Bowl. Being an injury replacement does not count as being a "Pro Bowler." A true representation of each conference's best only comes from being on the initial list that will be released tonight.
Belichick has had 18 different players voted to the Pro Bowl at total of 37 times.
Here's the list by year:
And by the number of selections for each player:
Here are my selections for which players deserve to go from the Patriots.
- Tom Brady, quarterback
- Wes Welker, wide receiver
- Rob Gronkowski, tight end
- Brian Waters, guard
- Andre Carter, end
- Vince Wilfork, defensive tackle
- Aaron Hernandez, tight end
- Matt Light, left tackle
- Kyle Arrington, cornerback
Which Patriots do you think deserve to be named?
