FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots used their first of two seventh-round picks on Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, who was recently arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.

Dennard was also ejected from the Capital One Bowl between Nebraska and South Carolina for fighting with Gamecocks' receiver Alshon Jeffery. He was expected to be drafted in the third or fourth round, but slipped to New England in the final round.

According to multiple reports, Dennard was arrested on April 21 in Lincoln, Neb., after allegedly getting into a bar fight that brought police to the scene.

On the field, Dennard played in 10 games for the Cornhuskers (he missed the first three with a leg injury), breaking up six passes. He's known as a physical corner, and was named Nebraska's defensive MVP.
