Patriots' director of pro personnel Jason Licht is leaving the organization to take a role with the Arizona Cardinals, league sources said Wednesday.

It is unknown what Licht's official job title will be with Arizona, but SiriusXM NFL contributor Adam Caplan reported that T.J. McCreight, who has served as the Cards' director of pro personnel, is expected to join the Colts.

Logically, Licht could be moving to fill that role, and that would essentially be a lateral move for him, which would be interesting and beg the question why he would leave a perennial winner to take the same job with a team in rebuilding mode.

But Licht did spend the 2008 season with the Cardinals as a personnel executive, so he does have previous experience with the club.

The 41-year old Licht was a finalist for the Chicago Bears' general manager job in January, but the team went with the Eagles' Phil Emery instead.

Licht first joined New England in 1999 as a scout; in 2003, having been promoted up to assistant director of player personnel with the Patriots, he left to take the same job in Philadelphia. In 2006-07, Licht was the Eagles' vice president of player personnel before the two sides parted ways and he landed with the Cardinals.

He came back to New England in 2009.
