FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are opening mandatory minicamp today at Gillette Stadium, the first of the last three practices scheduled in the spring for the team.

Head coach Bill Belichick will speak this morning before the team opens practice for the media this afternoon.

After practice, expect updates here on Extra Points where we'll try and give as many details on today's sessions as possible.

Some things we're looking out for:

- How the linebackers are doing in camp. With 12 linebackers listed on the roster -- not to mention the immeasurable number of pass rushers listed at defensive end -- there's quite a few variables to figure out in regards to the group and how each player fits into the Patriots schemes. We're almost sure that can't be completely answered today or this week, but we should get a better idea.

- The running back group and how the reps are being split up among Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, and Joseph Addai. Who will be the team's lead back? We're still wondering and will likely keep wondering. But that doesn't mean we can't list how many reps each player receives in team drills.

- What the defensive backs group looks like and how well new safety Steve Gregory is meshing with the team. Also, a continued look at DB Ras-I Dowling and how he looks coming back from injury.

- A look at new WR Jesse Holley and what kind of use Belichick has for the former Dallas Cowboys receiver.

We'll try to keep you up to date throughout the day right here.
