Patriots coach Bill Belichick just wrapped up his day-after press conference to talk about Thursday night's exhibition opener against the Saints, and offered this on injured linebacker Dane Fletcher:

"On the injury front, the news on Dane doesn’t look very good, so he’ll probably be out for a while. It’s unfortunate because he’s worked hard – he has a really good offseason and training camp, we’ve had good competition at that position, it will be an opportunity for someone else to step in, but it’s unfortunate for Dane."

Fletcher was helped off the field in the first quarter last night with what is believed to be a torn ACL.

When asked specifically if Fletcher will be placed on injured reserve, Belichick said he didn't want to speculate, just that he will be out for a while.
