Good morning. Here is your PDB for Wednesday, August 1, 2012. It contains all the links, info, analysis and occasional humor that you'll need to start your day. If you can't detect sarcasm or take yourself and/or football too seriously, this may not be your thing.

WHAT'S ON TAP

Today
**In-stadium camp session for season ticket holders and Foxborough residents - not open to the public**
Approx. 5 p.m. - Bill Belichick press conference
6:30-8:30 p.m. - Training camp practice No. 6

Tomorrow
Approx. 1 p.m. - Bill Belichick press conference
1:30-4 p.m. - Training camp practice No. 7

TO RECAP
For the first few days of training camp, Brandon Spikes was in uniform but his participation didn't really go beyond the early walk-through and warmup sessions. On Tuesday, the linebacker had his first full practice and jumped right in with the first-team defense. He also did his best Ricky Williams impression after.

The Patriots have a crowded position at safety, and oft-injured Josh Barrett is trying to stay healthy and prove he should stick around, writes Globe intern Alex Prewitt.

Today's notebook kicks off with Jonathan Fanene - whose buzz word yesterday was "learn" - and also includes Massachusetts native Ron Brace, who is quietly off to a good start at camp.

And in case you missed it, Greg Bedard gave the rundown from yesterday's practice, with rookie OL Darrion Weems impressing and some spirited goal-line play.

QUOTE/TWEET OF THE DAY
"#4PATSSAKE why the outrage.. LMAO.. For those who don`t know Yes I am a LOYAL supporter of Bill B my best friend and coach Pepper Johnson.. So when they asked me to come to camp to assist with some areas in which I have a particular skill set that can help his players get better during camp I said absolutely. I grew up in his D both with @giants and #Browns and helping with the Nuances is a great honor. And BTW I am here with the approval of my Bosses @giants so please exhale.. Plus they`re AFC lol"
-- An extended tweet from @CarlBanksGIII, the linebacking great. Banks, who played nine seasons with the Giants and won two Super Bowl rings there and is current the radio color analyst for the team, was on hand at Pats camp Tuesday - in a Pats t-shirt and shorts - which caught him a little heat from the New York fan base.

AROUND THE DIVISION
The gems keep coming from Jets camp: despite not having played receiver in four or five years, Antonio Cromartie is the second-best receiver on the team, according to Antonio Cromartie.

In Miami, members of the 2011 draft class not named Mike Pouncey are looking to be more productive this season.

The Bills' defense seems to be off to a good start in camp, but Tuesday Chan Gailey said he doesn't "even have an inkling" about who is going to be the starting left tackle and protect Ryan Fitzpatrick - rookie Cordy Glenn or Chris Hairston.
