Patriots quarterback Tom Brady checked in on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan show this morning and discussed his team's progress at this point in the preseason. Brady said it was too early to tell how his team was shaping up.

"It's just a matter of how things really come together here in the next four weeks before the season starts," said Brady. "We have quite a bit of practices, we've got three preseason games. Based on last week's performance [against the Saints] and through training camp, we still have quite a bit of work to do. So, that's why we're going out there today to practice."

One obvious change this year is the return of Josh McDaniels to the position of offensive coordinator. Brady said he has a good relationship with McDaniels and that McDaniels has the respect of the rest of the offense as well.

"He and I are extremely comfortable with one another," said Brady. "He's a great coach. I love being coached by him. He comes prepared every single day. He's always got something new to add to us. He brings a lot of energy to our offense. He's a great coach."

Brady cautioned against fans expecting some kind of revolutionary changes with McDaniels and said that change would come more from new personnel the team has added. Last year's offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien, is now the head coach at Penn State.

"Every coach has a different style," said Brady. "But [McDaniels and O'Brien] coached with each other. In terms of our offense and the style of our offense, it's the same playbook. Every coach has a different flavor to it."

Brady also weighed in on one of the more overrated issues of early training camp, the team's offensive line.

"Always in training camp there's a lot of players in there that are competing for jobs," said Brady. "Certainly, the offensive line that played the other night, they've been in there a lot throughout the course of training camp. Honestly, it's not my job to worry about those guys. I have a lot of confidence in that group in general, not just the individuals. The longer offensive lines play together, typically the better that they play, the more comfortable they are with one another ... I wouldn't expect us to peak here in early August."

On a lighter note, Brady deflected a question on whether he and his wife are expecting another child.
