No Brian Waters -- and now, no Waters nameplate
Here's another wrinkle in the Brian Waters saga: When reporters walked into the Patriots locker room today, they quickly noticed that the nameplate has been taken off of his former locker.
The white No. 54 practice jersey remains, and there was a t-shirt hanging in the stall as well, but that's about it.
Earlier this week, rookie Dont'a Hightower, who had to change his number to something NFL-acceptable for a linebacker, was given No. 54, which of course Waters wore last season in what is looking more and more like his only season with New England.
We understand this seems to be dragging on, but until there's some kind of move made -- either Waters shows up, or the Patriots cut or trade him -- it's going to linger.
