The Patriots were awarded former Boston College and Saints center/guard Matt Tennant off waivers, according to three league sources.

He was added to the 53-man roster.

Tennant, 25, is 6-5 and 300 pounds and was a fifth-round choice by the Saints in 2010.

He can play any of the interior spots, but is mostly a center. According to personnel executives, Tennant plays a lot like another former Eagle, Dan Koppen, but is nearly three inches taller. Tennant isn't overly strong, lacks a great base, but has good feet and is better in a zone scheme like the Patriots use.

I would say on first glance this doesn't bode well for a Brian Waters return, but things can change.

Right now, I would project Tennant to backup Ryan Wendell at center, and Dan Connolly to be the right guard. If Tennant gets up to speed, he could be the swing center/guard against the Titans. Donald Thomas is certainly an option as well.
