Cornerback Aqib Talib, whom the Patriots acquired Nov. 1 in a trade with Tampa Bay, had his four-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substances lifted today by the NFL.

Talib arrived at Gillette Stadium early this afternoon.

To that end, New England announced that linebacker Jeff Tarpinian was released. The move was almost certainly done to open a roster spot for Talib. Although the Patriots have had his rights since the trade, teams are given a roster exemption during a player's suspension.

Now that Talib is eligible to join the team, the Patriots had to make room for him on the 53-man roster.
