Patriots training camp daily briefing: Monday, Aug. 12

The Patriots return to the practice field Monday afternoon after taking two days off to rest and recuperate following Friday’s 31-22 preseason win over the Eagles.

Today figures to be a relatively light practice, as the Patriots gear up for another week of physical practices, this time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will practice with the Patriots in Foxborough from Tuesday to Thursday. Last week’s joint practices with the Eagles were more intense and physical than any other in training camp, and Bill Belichick will likely keep his players from hitting too hard today in anticipation of another tough week.

The biggest issue today will be the status of more than a dozen injured players, including cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and guard Marcus Cannon, potential starters who missed Friday’s game.

Former Jaguars LB Daryl Smith is impressing his new Ravens teammates as Ray Lewis’ replacement.

Bills rookie WR Marquise Goodwin, the fastest athlete at the NFL Combine and a 2012 Olympic long jumper, had a 107-yard kickoff return touchdown yesterday.

Now Chiefs LT Eric Fisher, the No. 1 pick in the draft, is banged up.

Remember DT Glenn Dorsey? The former Chiefs first-round bust is trying to resurrect his career in San Francisco.
