FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots have officially placed tight end Rob Gronkowski on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced late Monday afternoon.
Gronkowski tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in the third quarter of Sunday's win over Cleveland, at the tail end of a 21-yard reception. His right foot was planted when he was hit by Browns safety T.J. Ward on the outside of the knee.
Gronkowski was playing in his seventh game this season, and ends the year with 39 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns.
The team re-signed tight end D.J. Williams, who was signed Nov. 27 and then released Dec. 4. Williams played four offensive snaps against the Texans in Week 13.
