FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots announced Monday that they had signed offensive lineman R.J. Mattes and linebacker Taylor Reed to the practice squad.

This is the third time this year that Mattes, a 6-foot-6-inch, 315-pound undrafted rookie out of North Carolina State, has been with the team, following a short stint in May and another that lasted from June 3 to Aug. 24.

Reed, listed at 5-11, 236 pounds, spent training camp with the Cowboys and then some time on their practice squad in November; he is a rookie from Southern Methodist.

The Patriots also released offensive lineman R.J. Dill from the practice squad.

The moves mean the team has one open spot on the eight-man squad.
