ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Peyton Manning wasn’t sure how to answer the question.

The Broncos quarterback had been asked before to explain ''Omaha,'' the signal call that now has become its own story. But he had never been asked how he feels about Nebraska’s largest city.

''It wasn’t my pick,'' he said Wednesday.

But he did his best to explain it again -- without actually explaining it at all.

''I’ve had a lot of people ask what 'Omaha' means,'' Manning said. '' ’Omaha' is a run play.”

Well, sometimes.

''It could be a pass play,'' Manning said. ''Or a play-action pass, depending on a couple things.''

A few things, actually.

''The wind,'' Manning said, holding back his laughter. ''Which way we’re going, the quarter.''

And one last thing.

''The jerseys we’re wearing.''

It varies from play to play, Manning said.

Between the football IQs of former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher and former Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, there was enough brain power to decode one of Manning's favorite signals for Fox Sports.

Their explanations were a little easier to follow than Manning's.
