Is Brandon Browner a Patriot or not?
New England's acquisition of the cornerback was something of a Twitter spat Thursday evening between the NFL Network's Ian Rapaport and ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Brandon Browner's agent, Peter Schaffer, said his client is in negotiations w/ "four teams and we do not have a deal. We arent even close."— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 14, 2014
Brandon Browner has spread the word to those close to him that he has agreed with the #Patriots. Thus, my report that he has agreed.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 14, 2014
To add fuel to the fire, Browner's Seattle teammate Richard Sherman chimed in:
Congrats to @bbrowner27 my brother so excited for you!!!!— Richard Sherman (@RSherman_25) March 14, 2014
The best part of the entire evening was perhaps from Browner's agent, who told Pro Football Talk: ""It's 100 percent untrue. I've got four teams to negotiate with. I've got irresponsible journalists who don't check their facts putting this stuff out there, and my phone is blowing up when I'm trying to play hockey."
If signed by New England, Browner, who would start alongside fellow cornerback Darrelle Revis, would have to sit the first four games of the 2014 NFL season for violating the league's drug policy.
As for where things do indeed stand with Browner as of Friday morning, according to Schefter:
CB Brandon Browner is visiting Washington today, then plans to visit N.O. while his agent Peter Schaffer talks with New England and Oakland.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 14, 2014
