Is this the end of an era? Longtime Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork may be moving on, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
#Patriots Pro Bowl DT Vince Wilfork has asked that the team release him after 10 seasons in New England, according to sources.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 13, 2014
Wilfork has only played for the Patriots, starting in 2004, and has since gone to five Pro Bowls. He was named a captain in 2008 and won a title with the team in Super Bowl XXXIX.
The Patriots save $8 million if Wilfork is let go, $3.6 million in dead cap space.
If his wish is granted, New England will likely miss his leadership in the locker room -- along with his excellent (?) web series "At Home with the Wilforks."
