The Patriots placed several players on the physically unable to perform and non-football injury lists Monday, just two days prior to the team's opening of training camp, according to the NFL transaction wire.

Wide receiver Aaron Dobson (foot), cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (shoulder), defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, wide receiver Matthew Slater, and wide receiver Jeremy Gallon were all placed on the PUP list.

Top Patriots draft choice Dominique Easley (knee) was placed on the non-football injury list along with rookie running back Roy Finch and rookie linebacker Deontae Skinner. Easley is still recovering from a torn ACL from his time at Florida. Offensive lineman Chris Martin was also added to the list.

Notably absent from either list was Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski who had been limited in organized team activities and minicamp.

For training camp, players can be removed from the PUP or non-football injury lists at any time.

This is not necessarily the best time for some of these players to be removed from practice despite lingering health issues. Dobson, the second-year receiver who is still recovering from foot surgery, is expected to show improvement after a lukewarm rookie season in which he caught 37 passes for 519 yards and four touchdowns. He is in crowded position group. Kelly, like Easley, is also coming off a torn ACL and has a tremendous amount of competition at his position as well. Rookies Gallon, Finch, and Skinner are all fighting for roster spots. Their injuries are unknown.
