It's time to put on the pads and start the hitting.
After going through two days of training camp practices without any serious physical element, the Patriots will don their pads for the first time Saturday morning.
This will be a prime opportunity to get a better idea of the competition that is occurring on the offensive and defensive lines, which has mostly been muted with the team in helmets and sweats only.

Nine players did not participate in the Patriots second practice on Friday, including defensive back Jemea Thomas who was not spotted on the practice fields. Thomas has not been added to the physically unable to perform (PUP) or non-football injury (NFI) lists, according to the league's transaction wire. The Patriots have made no announcements on his status. In addition, wide receiver Greg Orton was carted off the field during Friday's practice. His status was unknown as well. Here are all of the players, some of whom are on the mend, that have not participated in practice.
