The Patriots announced Thursday morning that they had released veteran tight end Ben Hartsock, who had signed with the team on Sunday.
Hartsock, 34, was one of three tight ends the Patriots had brought in after electing to cut rookies Asa Watson and Justin Jones. On Wednesday, the Patriots also waived tight end Terrence Miller with an injury designation. He had been signed along with Hartsock and veteran Steve Maneri, a former offensive linemen.
Maneri is the only healthy tight end on the Patriots roster with Rob Gronkowski easing back into the lineup. Veterans Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams are sidelined with undisclosed injuries.
James Develin, the Patriots fullback, has also seen time as a tight end with the Patriots.
