One of the the newest running backs for the Steelers has made off-field headlines before he’s had a chance to show his skills on the gridiron in Pittsburgh.

LeGarrette Blount, who played for the Patriots last season, was arrested on Wednesday for possession of marijuana, according to multiple media reports.

It was reported that Blount and fellow Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell were arrested during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon after police smelled marijuana coming from their car. A 20 gram bag of marijuana was found in the vehicle, and the two Steelers, along with a female passenger, claimed ownership of the marijuana.

Bell, who was operating the vehicle, is expected to be charged with driving under the influence of marijuana. All three were arrested and later released.

Prior to playing a snap in the NFL, Blount was most known for punching a Boise State player following his Oregon Ducks losing their 2009 season opener to the Broncos. He missed eight games while serving a suspension from the team for the incident.

Blount has played in 56 games over his four-year NFL career, totaling 2,711 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. With the Patriots in 2013, Blount ran for 772 yards on 153 carries with seven touchdowns, also tallying 494 yards on kickoff returns.

He signed with the Steelers as a free agent this past offseason.
