Eckel saw quality time in the backfield over a seven-week stretch culminating in Week 11, where he rushed 10 times for 40 yards and scored a touchdown in a 56-10 triumph over the Buffalo Bills. He wouldn't carry the ball again, but led or tied for the team lead in special teams tackles three times during the year.

If the Patriots avoid the injury bug, Eckel and BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a rookie back out of Ole Miss, will be the longshots to make the active roster.
