A free agent following the 2007 season, Washington re-signed with the Patriots in late February. The Globe's Mike Reiss wrote at the time: "Washington didn't see much playing time on offense -- he played in only 37 snaps all season -- but was a consistent presence on special teams. Coach Bill Belichick often said that Washington could be counted on at receiver if called upon, but Washington seemed to be a victim of the team's depth at that spot. Based on possible changes at receiver in 2008, it could lead to more opportunities for Washington."
